PASSINGS.............
.......... DIANA and LIFE  ..............  31 August 1997, 2002, 2007
And so it's ten years since Diana's death.  Don't we all know where we were when it happened.......
Watched the service, Remembering Diana, live on TV.  We were in London on the fifth anniversary and went past Kensington Palace where there were some flowers.  More eerie for me, however, was that day ten years ago.
Remembering that Saturday still brings chills.
Seldom do I dream but I had that night and in the morning I told my husband about the strange dream I'd had.
Over brunch, I mentioned that I'd dreamed Diana had died.  Really bizarre.  Not that she'd been killed, just that she had somehow died.  Comment was made that that would indeed solve some controversial predicaments.  Prince Charles wanting to marry Camilla.  Diana's rather questionable series of lovers affecting how she and the monarchy wd be viewed.  Those thoughts were dismissed and the afternoon enjoyed.
You can imagine then at around 6pm when there was a brief news report that Princess Diana had been in a car accident in Paris, it was a surprise.  As the news relayed her worsening condition, sadness mingled with eerie shock.
Sends shivers still.
We watched the moving, unforgettable funeral live on TV, we bought the CD, we went to the memorial service in Christ Church Cathedral here, we drove past Kensington Palace in London on the fifth anniversary of her death, and all of this not b/c I was at all devoted to Diana.
It was that dream that unnerved me.  Diana, Princess of Wales, is a tragic figure but brought a warm (though herself troubled wch is perhaps why she had such empathy) spark to the lives of many.  She brought humanity to the monarchy and showed us unhappiness and death can come to anyone at any time.
Life, so precious and so tenuous.
.......... PAVAROTTI and VOICE
2007 Sept 5, his voice is now in the clouds after 71 years of singing here below.
We saw him at the premiere of "Yes, Giorgio" at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC.  He strode in; swished past; bursting with life, such presence.  We were at the opening reception and also exchanged pleasantries with Donald Sutherland.
.......... Rupert Harrison and West Vancouver
An icon.  Served DWV for 60 years.  He was a Municipal Clerk in the early days, and then Archivist, very much an integral part of WV history -- from the 1930s..  Left us Aug 9, just before his 93rd birthday and his 68th wedding anniversary.  Already missed.......
